Wow, been a long time since I updated this place. A lot has happened that kept be busy.

Husband and I got our own house, and more importantly I am now the mother of a healthy and beautiful one year old boy.

I have written a ton of fics since I've last been here, and you can find them all on my archive of our own account: http://archiveofourown.org/users/earthstar

I've recently gotten into Voltron: Legendary Defender so may try to update this place with some of my fics, but will wait and see.

bout time I've gotten around to posting some of my drawings lately.

First off, the work in progress. I did a group drawing of Jack, Merida, Hiccup and Rapunzel hanging out and painting. I want to colour this in watercolour, but I couldn't resist inking the original sketch first to show off.

And next up, for Brendala, some Sly Cooper sketches. XD There's nothing quite special about these, but I really want to try sketching some random scenes from the Sly 4+5 AU we've been plotting together.

As promised, here's a photo of my flapper girl Tooth cosplay and the other Rise of the Guardians cosplayers I ran into.

Photo Ahead )

With that said, Stu and I are already thinking of what cosplay to do for Hal-con 2014. (We're not going to 2013 one cause we just don't have the extra money for it this year.)

I want to do two cosplay and one of them will be my steampunk costume, however, Stu is thinking about doing a young North from the Guardians of Childhood novels. So, to go with that it has me thinking of either trying to do Bunny (novel or movie), Katherine for just do my flapper girl Tooth costume again. I think anyone of them would be good, but I wouldn't mind opinions.

It's the first day of Animaritime and so far it's been a good start.

We actually didn't start the day by going to the con, but rather to the Strange Adventures, our local comic store because Brenda Hickey was doing doing sketches for people. For those who don't know, Brenda Hickey is one of the artists that's been doing the My Little Pony comics and in fact her Micro-series on AppleJack comes out this much.

The artist who's doing the Powerpuff Girls comics was also there and they were both super friendly. I was able to get a cute Applejack sketch from Brenda and both a Rainbow Dash pin and snagged a Twilight pin for Isa.

After that, we went to con. I had thought of doing two cosplays plays this year, Lina Inverse and a flapper girl version of Tooth from Rise of the Guardians, but I ran out of time. So, I just stuck with the Tooth cosplay. I was so relieved when people were reconiging me and that I ran into two Jack Frost and a Bunny cosplayers there. I made sure to take pictures which I promise to post later.

Our biggest event today was hearing Brad Swaile speak, who is a voice actor. He was really fun and he showed up photos of past costumes and drawings he's done. Man the guy is talented and I can't wait to see his voice actor panel tomorrow.

And that's mainly day one, will probably have more news later. ^_^

So, Stu and I came from the Time Traveler's Reunion in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia and we had a great time.

As promise, I have photos of the costumes we wore. Stu had one and I had two.

Stu and I are now back from the Time Traveler's Reunion and we had a great time. We would gladly do it again. I plan to post photos of our trip later.

Also, after a long while I got around to making another music video. It's basically about Jack Frost, Rapunzel, Hiccup and Merida. See, on tumblr, these four characters kind of got group together and now they're called The Big Four/Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons and it's basically it's own fandom.

The idea if basically these four characters hanging out as friend. Yeah, tumblr took four random characters and decided they would be best buds. It's a weird place like that.

Anyway, it lead me to making this.

So, tomorrow Stu and I are head to the Time Traveler's Reunion in Nova Scotia. We got all of our costumes set and I promise to take a lot of photos. I'm really looking forward to it, it's the first time they're doing it. Hopefully, if it's a success they'll do it every year. ^_^

In other news, I almost got a long ROTG fic done that I've been working on for the last couple of months. Once I get that out of my system, I plan to get back working on my original steampunk novel. My goal is to get that done by the end of summer since I just have a few chapters left to go on it.

Okay, so Stu and I have now completed Sly 2. So, like with the first Sly game it's time for a review, so here goes

Sly 2 Review with Jo and Stu )

Stu and I saw Epic today and I really enjoyed it.

The story did feel disjointed at points, and there are some "how this world work" questions, but it had great characters, especially for female ones. I loved the queen and wished we could have seen more of her. (She got to be badass in a ball gown, that would be fun to cosplay) Also, the characters designs were terrific, I'm so glad I got the art book for this.

I do have to disagree with people that keep comparing it to Ferngully though. I get why that's the first to come to mind since both stories involve a human getting sunk and having to help save the forest with the little people that live there. Yet, I feel that's not really a fair comparison.

However, I would argue Epic feels much more like a fantasy movie than Ferngully (like Alice in Wonerland or the Wizard of Oz). To start with, the human turning tiny is not that unusual. There have been plenty of other stories that have done it, Ant Bully is the first to come to mind, Dot and Keeto, although I doubt anyone even knows what that one is. Heck even Alice did it.

The big difference is that Ferngully was more of an environmental film (with a very cheesy in your face environmental message). You could argue Epic had one too with showing how important the forest is, but it's not shoved in you face as often as Ferngully did.

Also, one big difference is that in Ferngully the main villain was powered by toxic fumes made by humans as well as the humans were also helping destroy the forest by cutting it down.

In Epic, the villain's main power is rot which is a natural part of nature. The villain just wants to upset the balance and destroy everything. Humans aren't even involve in his evil plans, and I'm rather glad cause that would have been too cliche.

Overall, Epic is a good movie. Best movie of the year? Probably not, but a good fantasy film with a good cast of characters. I would see this again.

Okay, just for fun Stu and I have decided to write a review for each Sly Cooper game we finish. So, here's the review for the first Sly Cooper game and keep in mind we did play a bit of Sly Cooper 2 before we played the first one. So, here goes:

Sly Cooper Game Review with Jo and Stu )

Yay! It's now been officially one year today since Stu and I were married. And we've haven't killed each other yet. Mission accomplish! XD
earthstarmoon: (human zel)
It's been awesome weather this week, I think somehow New Brunswick might have skipped spring since we went from cold winds to being able to wear shorts within two weeks. With that said, it's suppose to be pouring for the next couple of days, which isn't a bad thing since I think the crops need it.

It feels like lots of things have been going on/will be happening this summer. Stu and I decided it was time to buy a new Mac desktop together and it should be arriving sometime this week. We planned to set it up in our room and hopefully by next summer we'll be buying our own house.

Eventwise, Animaritime will be happening the beginning of July so I need to finish up my Lina cosplay. I got the shirt, cape and pants done. Now, I just need to make the shoulder guards and add gems to my glove and boots. I promise to post photos once it's finish.

And also, on June 15 and 16 Stu and I are driving down to Sherbrooke Village, Nova Scotia. Why? Cause, apparently, they're having a Time Travellers Reunion going on.

Time Travellers Reunion

It's bascially a big steampunk event where everyone gets to dress up, take part in workshops (there's a writing one I have my eye on) and there's even a tea garden party to take part in. It looks really fun and I've never been in that part of Nova Scotia. So, it's an adventure. I think they might do it every year, so if Stu and I really enjoy might do this again next year.

And my other summer projects are to finish my original novel and hopefully to lose ten pounds this summer.

Oh! And I'm finally caught up where I lost my original file in Sly Cooper 2. I was going to play the first game and then go to the second, but Stu and I decided might as well try playing both at the same time. Granted, between the two Stu and I enjoyed Sly Cooper 2 a lot more than the first one.
earthstarmoon: (Default)
So, recent new development is that Stu and I decided to buy a new desktop computer. We each still have our laptops, but we know that once we have our own house we're probably going to need a laptop, so might as well get it now.

It isn't suppose to arrive for another week, but this has results in me spring cleaning my room, including my closet to make space for it. This is mainly moving, going through my craft supplies and throwing out stuff I don't need anymore.

I had forgotten it was also where I had store a lot of my drawings and stories from high school and I'm laughing myself silly. Granted, it does make me realize that my skills have improved a lot more than I remember, in both writing and drawing. Some of the stuff I'm re-discovering are old fanart drawings, fanfics written in notebooks that thankfully never saw the light of day and the best of all a Slayers rip-off manga I drew back in my high school senior year. I may have to scan some of the pages just to share my nostalgia of it.

With that said, did find my notebook with old story ideas I had written down to maybe try to write at a later date. So, that's a keeper at least.

In other news, I have started playing the first game of the Sly Cooper series and it is far. However, I can see the major changes they made for Sly 2 and I can see why. The dying by one hit can be frustrating, but it's still fun.

However, I'm not that far in the game. I'm currently trying to figured out how I'm suppose to cross traps while supposedly hiding in a barrel for protection. This makes sense in context I swear. XP

Yeah, surprise, surprise, another Rise of the Guardian fic from me. Will this stop anytime soon? Probably not! XD

Title: The Whole Story
Rating: G
Summary: When visiting North's workshop, Jack ends up telling North the whole story of his encounter with Pitch and the offer he made. The reaction was not what Jack expected.

It's my birthday today and I'm officially turning 29.

I got the artbook of The Croods (yay) and other goodies. Although I was laughing when Stu gave me purple socks with stripes. In an RPG I play with [personal profile] beccastareyes and [personal profile] savvyliterate I made it an ongoing joke that my character Lance has always wanted purple socks with stripes. So, Stu gets points for that.

Oh, and [personal profile] brendala Stu did also get me all three Sly Cooper games, so you are now free to poke me into playing them. XD

We're going to go out to lunch later, so it should be a fun day even though mother nature decided to have it snow on my birthday. XP

Happy Easter everyone! It's been a busy place at my house. We had eleven people over for Easter dinner Friday and plus I managed to do some baking. I made Easter sugar cookies!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I decorated them by melting chocolate and then painting them onto the cookies with a cheap brush from the Dollar Store. They turned out so cute.

And I did some Bunny art too, I couldn't resist.

Cuteness Ahead )

Stu and I just came back from seeing The Croods. It was so good!

I won't go into major spoilers, but if you love Chris Sanders other works like Lilo and Stitch and How To Train Your Dragon, you'll love The Croods.

It's both hilarious and touching. It has a great balance of comedy and tear jerking moments. from the trailers you would think the main character is Eeep and her love story with Guy is the main plot but it's not. The whole family is the main character of the movie and how they change. Eeep and Guy's relationship is just part of the subplot and it's natural, but it's not the main focus.

Also, not only is Eep a great character, but the whole family are great characters to watch develop. They're all just fun to watch interact between each other. The different types of animals and creatures they developed for the movie are fun too. It's like seeing all the great combination of animals from the Avatar series.

Plus the animation and scenery in this movie is really imaginative too.

All in all, The Croods is far more than just a comedy. If you love Chris Sanders work, you'll enjoy this. If you've never heard of the guy, this movie is a good introduction to his work. It's just a great movie. Be warned, you will probably need tissues.

A Despicable Me 2 trailer with hinting of plot has finally been released. All I can say is that, I'm hoping this woman is a main character because I'm already liking her and she has a cute design. XD

I've been busy making cakes and crafting so figured it was time to show this off. ^_^

First off, the cake I made for my mom's 60th birthday.

Cake time )

Next up, decided to try my hand at wreath making.

Too Early for Easter? )

Also, for those curious, I've started my own craft blog. Sweet Tooth Trinkets I should be adding more to it soon.
